Hey! I can’t believe I missed this post! I feel terrible that I haven’t been sharing my running tips and playlists with you. Okay, on beginning running (though it sounds like you’ve already started) I used a FANTASTIC program called Couch-to-5k. Really can’t recommend it strongly enough. It can take someone who has never had an athletic second in her life (me) and make her a runner! You start really slow and that’s the key. I will also send you a couple of CDs with the upbeat music I used for my half-marathon. (Note: normally I do not burn music for anyone as – being married to a musician – I think it’s stealing and wrong. But a lot of these tracks were made by friends and sent to me with the intention that I’d share them with others. And the songs that I bought that are copyrighted and not meant to be shared: I haven’t burned a CD for anyone in seven years. Promise. I am only doing this for my good friend Elizabeth to support her running dreams. Don’t smite me, music gods. :)

Oh and most of all CONGRATS on reaching your goals so far! That’s WONDERFUL!

You’re awesome! Both for the fantastic, surprise encouragement today and for your law-breaking to support my wellness. I’m always up for new, fun music. As you can see, I’m listening to a lot of pop booty music (normally not my cup of tea but it gets me moving). I’ve looked at C25K but don’t like the timed intervals. Do you actually carry a stop watch and do it that way? Clearly, you just ran a half-marathon, so it works. Teach me, and I’ll learn.

Elizabeth, I’m enjoying my first “off” Saturday in a while and am catching up on some blog reading. I’m inspired by your fitness plan as I’m trying to do a similar thing and not doing so well. Anyway, I’m planning on running a 5k in May and am using a Couch to 5K app. I don’t know if you have a smart phone, but if you do, you can download this app and it does the intervals for you. You listen to your music or podcasts or whatever and every so often, it beeps in with “run” or “walk”. It’s been great!

Keep it up and keep writing. It helps me to know some others I know are out there working on getting healthy.

That sounds really fantastic! I am a hold-out and have yet to move over the the smart phone works, but what you’re describing sounds great. I like what I’ve seen from Nike, too. Not sure that it’s worth the data plan for that, but it’s certainly tempting! Hang in there, friend. Where are you exercising? We joined the Y in January, and their ActivTrax program (also smart phone capable) is really encouraging. You track workouts, weight loss, and nutrition. I love it!
